Teens and Toddlers proves significant impact on NEETs and teenage pregnancy prevention

Teens and Toddlers has published its 2009 Annual Retrospective Study to show a significant impact on reducing rates of teenage pregnancy and NEETs. Graduates of the Teens and Toddlers programme are retrospectively tracked from 14 years to 20 years old on an annual basis.

96% of under 18s didn’t report a pregnancy incident (97.7% of under 16s) and 96.7% of under 18s are in education, employment or training.

Participants also placed high importance on financial security, education and sexual health.

Morgan Law Director joins COUI UK Board in non-executive role

Rob Johnson from leading recruitment specialists Morgan Law has joined the Board of COUI UK as a Non-executive Director. As specialists in the not-for-profit and public sectors, Morgan Law is ideally placed to support the efforts of youth charity COUI UK & its Teens and Toddlers programme. He brings a wealth of business development knowledge as well as a number of influential connections in the public and not-for-profit sectors.

Commenting on his appointment, Rob Johnson, Associate Director, said: “Ever since my studies introduced me to some of the psychological and social issues that Teens and Toddlers tackles I have been keen to use my business acumen for altruistic means. Family and the future of all our children is very important to me and I’m happy to be joining at such an exciting time for the charity. The Teens and Toddlers programme is making a genuine difference to those who really need support.”

T&T Young Leaders Finalists in CHANGEit! Awards
The T&T Young Leaders group were selected as finalists in this year’s CHANGEit! Awards for the Youth Voice project Teens and Toddlers Magazine. There were over 600 entries this year and we are very proud to win the £250 prize as finalists.

BT Community Connections

Teens and Toddlers Young Leaders has been awarded a laptop and one year’s internet access from the BT Community Connections award scheme. The T&T Young Leaders - Youth Voice project was given the laptop so they had a dedicated computer to work on the publication and in recognition of the benefit to the community of the magazine.

T&T Young Leaders win Media Trust Award for Youth Voice
T&T Young Leaders group has won a Media Trust Award for its Teens & Toddlers Magazine ‘Youth Voice’ project. The group was awarded £500 prize money in recognition of using digital media in an inspiring way within the local community.

Gavin Sheppard, Director of Marketing and Communications Services at The Media Trust, said: ”We were especially impressed with the way the Teens and Toddlers Magazine project was lead and driven by young people keen to learn new skills, get their voices heard and inspire other young people to do the same.”

T&T Young Leaders win Big Lottery funding for Youth Voice
Our Young Leaders project, Youth Voice – T&T magazine, has been awarded £7425 from Big Lottery’s Awards for All to continue with their successful magazine project throughout 2010.  The award will allow the group to make a further three issues of T&T magazine.  Youth Voice – T&T magazine is an opportunity for young people to learn how to make a professional style magazine where the participants have a real say on issues that matter to young people: the magazine is distributed to hundreds of graduates of Teens & Toddlers across the country in order to support and encourage them to think about their lives, potential and health after completing Teens & Toddlers.

T&T Young Leaders awarded Terence Higgins Trust funding
Teens and Toddlers Young Leaders group has been awarded £732.20 by the Terence Higgins Trust from its Young Leaders SRE project fund. The group came second out of 16 applications and were commended on their focus on relationships and emotional well-being, enthusiasm and evaluation.

As part of its continued growth plan Teens and Toddlers has appointed new Director of Business Development & Marketing, Damian Ford. Damian brings a wealth of sales and marketing experience and specialist knowledge of non-for-profit organisations.  This post is funded by the former DSCF, now DoE.

Fourth Retrospective Evaluation Study
We are pleased to announce our fourth Retrospective Tracking Evaluation Study which not only tracks graduates of Teens & Toddlers for teenage pregnancy, but also: outcomes measured against the Every Child Matters agenda as well as education and employment.

 

Award Announcement

COUI UK has won the Children and Young People’s Service Award for Preventative work.  A panel of 21 adult professionals and 10 Young People judged Teens and Toddlers to be the project that has made the most effective early intervention with young people at risk of poor health and dropping out of education.

‘The project used research-based methods and had a clear vision for tackling teenage pregnancy’ (Young Judges comment)

Teens and Toddlers was also highly commended for its contribution to young peoples health in The Being Healthy Award category.

 

We are delighted to announce of being awarded major strategic grant from DCSF for National Development Manager to expand the delivery of Teens and Toddlers nationally and extend its variety of service provision. In particular, they will lead the research and development of new services that address gaps in the government's 14-19 agenda. COUI UK is at a vital point in its growth and this post is pivotal in ensuring it is successful in achieving key outcomes.

 

Laura Archera Huxley, Creator of the Teens & Toddlers project and Founder of Children Our Ultimate Investment USA, passed away on the 14th of December 2007 at the age of 96 years.  Laura was a visionary who touched the lives of thousands of people and will continue to do so with her legacy for many years to come.

DCSF endorses Teens and Toddlers

In the last week of April 07, Beverly Hughes, Children’s Minister and Alison Hadley, DCSF Teenage Pregnancy Unit, sent a letter to all Regional Teenage Pregnancy Coordinators endorsing the Teens & Toddlers project as a well evaluated targeted intervention for the most at risk young people; and asking that the letter be passed on to the Lead Person for Targeted Youth Service. MP Hilary Armstrong

Cabinet Office Minister for Social Exclusion visited a Teens and Toddlers project in May 2006 and was thoroughly delighted with what she experienced. She saw the impact of the project for prevention of teenage conception, increased sexual responsibility and an expanded sense of future life goals.
